About QFSF

Established in 2020, Queen’s for Sustainable Fashion works to spread awareness surrounding the dire consequences which the fashion industry imposes on the environment. Student-led advocacy is placed at the forefront of our club’s mission and values – exemplified through creative photoshoots, blog posts, and on-campus events. We aim to educate both the Queen’s student body and Kingston community on how to consume more ethically, with the future of our planet in mind. Our hope is that creativity & climate can work hand in hand, rather than against each other, as we envision a world which considers the importance of both to livelihood.

Land Acknowledgement & Privilege Statement

Queen's for Sustainable Fashion (QFSF) unites around a common mission: to advocate for and practice sustainable principles within the fashion industry. In this pursuit, we acknowledge the Indigenous peoples whose traditional lands we inhabit and understand the profound connection between sustainable practices and our duty to these communities and their land.

Queen's University is situated on the ancestral territories of the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples. These Indigenous nations have sustained a harmonious relationship with the land for millenia, rooted in their deep respect for nature's delicate balance. The wisdom shared by the people of the communities teaches us sustainability is not a mere trend, but a way of life. These communities have stewarded these lands, valuing the fine resources and nurturing a profound understand of how to live as one with or environment.

Our commitment to sustainable consumption practice is an acknowledgement of our need for alignment with the values of Indigenous communities. By promoting ethical consumption, reducing waste, and supporting sustainable fashion practices, we aim to contribute towards the preservation of this land in which we have been entrusted. We recognize that as students, we are privileged to have the platform and resources to be able to advocate for positive social change. We understand that with this privilege comes a responsibility to support our Indigenous communities in their quest for justice and sustainability.

Through our commitment to building a more mindful and sustainable community, we hope to honour, nurture, and give back to this land and its original stewards, and wish to express our gratitude for the opportunity to learn on this land throughout our journey. Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond the scope of just fashion - it encompasses a devotion to advocating for a more ethical and sustainable global consciousness, one that recognizes the importance of both ethical consumption and the preservation of Indigenous cultures and their territories.
